Gabriel
Gabriel Salazar Vergara was born on January 31, 1936. He was a prominent figure in Chilean history. In Chile, he is famous for his research on social history and the analysis of movements in society. It is evident in recent student protests that took place in 2006 and 2011. Salazar was raised in a low-income family. He was a student of sociology, sociology and history in the prestigious Universidad de Chile. He was also assistant to Mario Gongora, a classical historian, as well as Hector Herrera Cajas, a historian. 1. Salazar was part of the Revolutionary Left Movement until 1973. He was also tortured by the military in Villa Grimaldi that same year. Following his release from the prison camp for military, he fled to England. He was given a grant to further his education in Hull University. University of Hull. In the same university, he earned a PhD qualification with a focus on Economic and Social History in 1984. Salazar returned to Chile the following year. Unknown to many, Salazar's breakthrough happened in 1985. He was a scholar of peons and the proletariat and laborers. Salazar is one founder of Nueva Historia Social which is an historical movement. Salazar believes that history is an efficient tool to facilitate social action. In an interview, he declares himself a "leftist and an eminent historical socialist" and rejected the title "Marxist"
