Audra McDonald is unparalleled in her range and the versatility of her talent as a singer and an actor. In 2015, she was awarded record-breaking 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and the Emmy Award. She was also acknowledged as a result of Time magazine among the 100 most influential people and was awarded with the National Medal of Arts - the top award in America to recognize artistic accomplishment as awarded by President Barack Obama. McDonald's initial appearance as a television actor was with the Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say, The Delany Sisters' First 100 years. McDonald was later cast as a co-star with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the critically acclaimed 1999 television adaptation of Annie and in 2000 she played a regular role on the NBC's cult series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald earned her first Emmy for her role on"The Wit," the HBO version of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit written by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she re-appeared on television, this time in Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., featuring Josh Brolin. In early 2006 she joined in the ensemble of the The Bedford Diaries on the WB. The Bedford Diaries and over the next season she had an recurring role in NBC's television series Kidnapped. McDonald received a 4th Emmy nomination for her part in HBO's film special of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the year 2016. She starred alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed comedy co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. In 2009, she portrayed U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. In 2018, McDonald played her character Liz Reddick as a regular in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She earned three Critics Choice Award nods for the performance. She is currently appearing as a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
